IMPORTANT! Meetings to Discuss Possible Contract

MDEA members received an e-mail today from the MDEA office.  The e-mail is as follows:

 Dear Members,

As you know we have reached a tentative conceptual agreement with the district at our last mediation session.  We have two future dates to meet again to approve specific language so we can sign a tentative agreement we can share with our members.

I would like you to save some dates on your calendar to attend a general member information meeting where we will be able to explain the agreement, answer questions, and hear your concerns.  We understand that our elementary teachers have conferences during the time we are scheduling these meetings and we'll have at least one in the evening to help meet your availability.  By giving you the possible dates in advance we are hoping you can schedule these meetings and we'll have at least one in the evening to help meet your availability.  By giving you the possible dates in advance we are hoping you can schedule other commitments around these meetings.  We are hoping to get a large turnout at these meetings.

If we have a tentative agreement at our next mediation session on December 8, we will have a general meeting* on:

Wednesday, Dec 10 at 3:30
Thursday, Dec 11 at 6:00
Tuesday, Dec 16 at 3:30

We would vote to ratify on Wednesday, Dec 17 and Thursday Dec 18, 2008.

If we have a tentative agreement at our second mediation session on December 15, we'll have a general meeting on:

Tuesday, Dec 15 at 3:30
Wednesday, Dec 17 at 6:00
Tuesday, Jan 6 at 3:30

We will vote to ratify on Wednesday, Jan 7 and Thursday, Jan 8, 2009.

*Locations still to be determined

When will the terms be made public for those who cannot goto the meetings?

As soon as the agreement language is settled--on the 9th or the 14th--MDEA will publish a flyer. I'm guessing that it will be dropped off at each school site for the site rep to distribute. I will also make sure it's posted here (and most likely on the MDEA web site as well).

If you can't attend a meeting, please make sure that you ask questions here or call the MDEA office.

Is there even any $$ left to negotiate, or is there just more to lose?

I hope that the board directs their bargaining team to give MDEA enough to cover at least single kaiser this year. I can't see how our district can continue on without being competitive. Then, they need to go about the business of cutting to make that fit their budget.

Hi Carissa
I have a test site up for the MDEA web. Please go to http://tericooper.net/MDEAweb/index.htm
And let me know what you think. I had some problems and I'm not sure if I worked out all of the bugs.
Thanks, Teri

There should be a separate area to discuss the tentative agreeement...an area where MDEA reps, and other officials who are more familiar with this agreement can answer questions about it.
